NEW 626bhp Range Rover Sport SV Gets BMW M5 Power
SV replaces SVR. With the loss of a letter comes a gain in image. This isn’t the brash, boisterous car it once was. The hottest Range Rover Sport has been civilised. But don’t for one second think that it’s boring. The headline is still its whacking great V8, only this one’s been pilfered from the latest M5. Yep, this Range Rover is now packing BMW twin-turbo V8 power – 626bhp and 590lb-ft of it – allowing the 0-62mph time to fall by almost a second to 3.8s.
But that’s not all. Technology has been liberally applied here – chief among which is JLR’s ‘6D Dynamics’: cross-linked hydraulic dampers that pump fluid around at huge pressure to resist not just roll, but compression under pitch and dive. No other fast SUV has this level of chassis tech.
So, what else is there to know? And how does it all work? Join TG’s Ollie Marriage on a rather wet, and drifty journey into the unknown.
